The Lewistown Truck & Tractor Pull was born of 2 families with similar interests, long standing friendships and a common goal for the future of their children and community.
In 2018 a phone call from Nick Christy to Jeremy Haggerty formed the footwork of what would lead to a passionate under taking for both families to bring together a truck & tractor pull for the community that would fundraise money for the local FFA program to help students attend more learning experiences and help offset costs for more kids to participate.
With years of experience on the pulling circuit, Nick & Jeremy worked through the logistics of arranging all that would be needed for a great show while Kellie & Amy stepped up to the plate and managed running the registration, paperwork and monetary side of the event.
A staff of 25 to 30 volunteers began turning up year after year to help the event run smoothly and what came to be was an event that grew year by year and has had a top number of 160 hooks in one show year, has increased in the number of not only pullers from several states but co-sanctioned organizations, sponsors and classes.
The LTTP is a not for profit organization that donates all monies to the local FFA programs. Over the course of 7 years, we have averaged between 60-80+ sponsors from our local area and with some sponsorships coming in from Iowa, Missouri, and Kentucky.
The event is held at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Lewistown, IL on the 3rd Sunday of August each year. In the first year, the event raised $8,100 donated to Lewistown FFA. The second year we partnered with Cuba FFA and began donating $5,000 to each chapter each year until 2023. We raised $8,000 from that show and gave each chapter $4,000 and brought our 7 year amount to $56,000. The donations are presented at a school board meeting at each school in the fall. We have been featured in the newspaper every year from these presentations.
The Lewistown Truck & Tractor Committee is comprised of good friends Nick Christy (President) & Jeremy Haggerty (Vice-President) and their wives Amy Christy (Secretary) & Kellie Haggerty(Treasurer). The Christy Family resides in Bryant, IL and has 3 children attending Lewistown schools and the Haggerty Family resides in Cuba, IL and has 3 children attend Cuba schools. Both families have a history of farming and while Nick works for the school district he is the proprietor of Nick's Diesel & Auto in his spare time. Jeremy & Kellie are the full time owner and operators of Haggerty Dozing & Excavating. We believe in teaching our children good work ethic, philanthropic pursuits, and community involvement through our endeavors with the schools, our pull and businesses.
Jeremy & Nick compete in truck pulls against each other each year in a diesel class. Our pulling families are a great group of people we have grown to enjoy seeing year after year all over central Illinois, Eastern Missouri & Southeast Iowa.
In 2022 & 2023 we were pleased to be the recipients of the 'Event of the Year' by the United Pullers of America organization. We hope to continue making our event a success for our pullers and spectators alike!
